That smirk on his face says everything...

I didn't have a clue where we were off to and he wouldn't tell me a thing. We ended up at the same place we stayed in for our first night of honeymoon. A picturesque bed and breakfast between Kaiwaka and Te Hana. The host is an amazing cook and provides both breakfast and dinner. Very good value for money and even the biggest eater would be well satisfied with the amount of food and the variety.

Off to the Matakana markets for a leisurely morning. A great place to stop in on a Saturday morning if you're ever in the area.

Not the most exciting minifolf course in Mangawhai, but for $4 a person, you certainly can't complain! J won again. Maybe by our 40th wedding anniversary I will have managed to beat him...

Next stop: Tawharanui Regional Park. It's protected from stoats and dogs and there are plenty of walks to do around the area.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't feel as though I was up for one of the walks around the park so we opted to sit on the beach and enjoy the sunshine.

Then it was back home to good old Whangarei. Had dinner at a new Cafe/Restaurant called Chandoz. Not the most of romantic places, but very reasonably priced, the food was great and it was more than enough for the two of us.

We topped it off with a cheap night in and rented Madagascar, one of our favourite movies.

Ahh, bliss. Making the most of quiet nights with just the two of us while we can.

I love that...
It's our one year Anniversary coming up really soon.
I can't believe it's been a year already. So much has happened and I'm looking forward to all of the years ahead of us.

I finally found some new shoes after months of searching that fit my long skinny feet and now I can work all day and not come home all sore! Pure leather so a wee bit pricey but at this stage of my pregnancy, definitely worth it :)

Easy Apron Tutorial

You will need:

Old pair of jeans
Fabric for the top half of the apron
(I only used about 1/4 metre)
Embellishments (buttons, ribbon, bows, lace, etc)
Bias binding

First I cut out the old pair of jeans...

* Cut along the side seams
* Cut the length of the jeans to how long you want the bottom of your apron to be
* For the tie around the waist you can either cut around the belt loop and use that or what I did was to just cut if off and then insert a pretty belt using up some fabric scraps

Next step, add your embellishments...

*I added some lace to the bottom instead of hemming it

*I cut out a flower out of my lace fabric & sewed a button in the middle to hold it on

*I sewed some more lace around the pockets

For the belt...

* I cut some fabric scraps into the same height, but random lengths, rearranged them into an order I was happy with, sewed the pieces together first, pressed the seams open

*Fold the strip in half along the length with right sides together, sew together and then turn right side out and press again.

(Not my photo, but you get the idea hopefully)

*For the ends, I sewed them into a semi-triangle, but you can just stitch straight.

For the top half...

*I used an old t-shirt to trace a pattern I liked. Remember to make it a wee bit shorter than you think you need.
*I sewed some bias binding around the whole edge of my apron
(if you're unsure of how to do this, follow these instructions here)
*Made another 'belt' for my straps except this time instead of using random pieces, I used all one colour.
*Sew straps at preferred angle to top
*I added bows to hide the stitches because I did in a rush :) You probably won't need to though if you do it slowly and properly!

The finished product - tada!
